YouTube comments are a cesspool of hatred, spam and vitriol. But they also present a huge opportunity for engagement and community development.
Whether you want to know how to view your YouTube comments on a computer or mobile device, this tutorial will help you get started! Start by opening the video on which you want to comment. Then, tap the “Add a public comment…” text field. It’s near the top of the comments section, to the right of your Google Account profile picture.
What is a comment?
A comment is a text box where YouTube users can leave feedback, start conversations, and ask questions about a video. Comments can be viewed and replied to by anyone who watches the video. Viewers can also interact with a comment by clicking on the heart icon to show their appreciation.
When someone leaves a particularly noteworthy comment or reply, YouTube may highlight it so that it stands out among the rest. This feature seems to be more common on user-generated content, like the famous Bob Army copypasta meme.
For business owners, highlighting a comment can be an effective way to draw attention to important feedback or information from your audience. However, be careful not to rely too heavily on this feature, as it can become an opportunity for trolls. Instead, focus on providing valuable content and engaging with your viewers, to create a positive online reputation for your brand.
How do I view my comments?
If you’ve posted a lot of comments on YouTube over time, it might be useful to be able to see them all in one place. That’s particularly true if some of them are risky or downright cringe-worthy, and you might need to edit or delete them.
You can view your own YouTube comments on a computer by visiting the YouTube website and logging into your account. Click History on the left-hand navigation menu and select ‘Comments’ from the list. You’ll be presented with a chronological list of all the comments you’ve made on videos on YouTube.
This is a quick and easy way to review your comments. However, you won’t be able to access your comments on mobile phones using this method. If you have an Android phone, you can check your YouTube comment history through Google My Activity by tapping the profile icon in the top right-hand corner and selecting Settings. You can then tap ‘Have you seen this?’ to go to your activity review page.
How do I edit my comments?
As you know, YouTube comments are a great way to gauge customer sentiment. However, they can also go off-topic or even be downright cringe-worthy. As such, it’s important to keep an eye on your comment history and edit or delete them when needed.
You can view your comment history on both desktop and mobile by visiting the video’s page on YouTube and clicking History in the left menu. In the history type panel that opens, click Comments to open your list of previous comments. To edit a comment, simply select it and click Edit. To delete a comment, navigate to the video in question and find your comment (it’ll be listed under your username). From there, just click Delete.
How do I delete my comments?
YouTube comments can be a place to foster debate and discussion, share personal experiences or even offer support for video creators. However, at their worst, they can be distracting, spam-filled and abusive. Thankfully, YouTube allows users full control over their comment history and it’s a simple process to delete your comments, whether you’re on desktop or mobile.
To delete a comment, simply visit your comments panel (steps 1 and 2) and find the comment you want to edit or delete. Click the hyperlink or video thumbnail and YouTube will open the video in a new tab. Once you’ve found the comment you want to remove, click the three vertical dots and select Delete. You’ll then see a confirmation text box to confirm the deletion. The deletion process can take a bit of time, especially on mobile. Ideally, you’ll want to do this process on a desktop or laptop computer and keep the YouTube page open to prevent your device from going into sleep mode.
